Note | Extraordinary large and lovely example and of this rare Eastern Pacific deep water Murex (0.8 mm short of the registered WR). Excellent display of moderately fluted varices with tan/buff beige and mellow light brown toned pattern on the varix spines and body whorl. The shell presents with a perfect apex, spire, and aperture lip. The specimen is in remarkable condition for this rarer species taken from the east Pacific. The shell was collected as bycatch by a shrimp trawler at 100-120 meters off Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico in the 80's. The specimen shows minor attrition of the varix edges, one separated spine on the trailing varix and chipping of the thin anterior siphon. Grade: F++/F+++. |
