Note | Ship-wreck collected super rusty chesnut cowrie from California. This is an impressive specimen, with a rusty/brown and burnt orange dorsum, black undulating halo and dark tangerine orange extremities with orange/brown painted lateral walls. The specimen has perfect anterior and posterior siphons with perfect china-white teeth and aperture. A lovely specimen for this rare uncommon pigmentation found within the species. The specimen does display rusty pigmentation of the base on both sides, an unusual bonus. Collected at 23-24 meters by the Scuba diver Julian Lee on the Star of Scotland wreck off Santa Monica Bay, California in 2/2024. The shell displays minuscule subnacre blemishes. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
