Item | # 0003638376 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila orientalis raybaudii - GLOBULAR , Lorenz 1992 |
Size | 61.4 mm |
Locality | Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island, SA |
Note | Remarkably globular and inflated, superb large humped specimen with strong posterior/anterior marginal flaring and corrugation. Interesting and beautifully dispersed collage of dorsal spot patterning with flawless extremities, base and exemplary dorsal nacre gloss. The shell shows moderate rostration and exceptional form and symmetry. The specimen also features a strong weight for it's size (34.4 grams). This subspecies is primarily located in a limited area of southern Australia and there are no known recently captured specimens in over a decade. Taken by Scuba diver while feeding on red sponges at 14-24 meters off Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island, South Australia in 2018. The specimen demonstrates a glazed/repaired fish bite injury on the columellar mid-dorsum as viewed in images along with some mild growth lines. Grade: F++/F+++. |
