Note | Rare deep water thersities subspecies found only off southern Australia. Extraordinary inflated specimen with a remarkable display of 14 variably sized, symmetrically aligned, chestnut brown transverse spotted bands complementing the primary hued cream dorsum. Some bands traverse the dorsum completely and some are interrupted. The shell has a perfect cream/peach slightly convex base, flawless peach/brown extremities, intense lateral wall/marginal spotting accentuated by a rich, thick nacre gloss. The shell has a modest weight/size ratio (48.9 grams), typical of the subspecies. A collector's showpiece. The specimen was trawled at 140-160 meters off Ceduna, South Australia circa mid-90s. Grade: GEM. |
