Item | # 0003643108 |
Family | Fissurellidae |
Name | Fissurella bridgesii - Nice, Wide! , Reeve, 1849 |
Size | 65.8 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of the very rare Fissurella bridgesi, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, and it is found in very low numbers. This is, together with F. pulchra, the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and PerĂº. Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen has a nice thick and rare very wide shell, with a nice cleaned dorsum with some scars but with no scurria scars or other damages. It has an almost perfect beveled border with wide margins and no damages except some very tiny chips almost unnoticeable. This is an opportunity to obtain a rare and nice specimen from a difficult-to-get species for a very low initial price. |
