Family | Muricidae |
Name | Thaisella chocolata - Very Nice, Large! , (Duclos, 1832) |
Size | 92.9 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice and large specimen of the edible muricid Thaisella chocolata. This species is collected by divers in 4-20 m depth off the rocky coasts of northern Chile and southern PerĂº and it is an uncommon species. This species is rare in collections as their shells are almost always covered with cirripedian and other epibionts and very ugly. This particular specimen is large for the species, with very small defects. It has a nice spire, sculpture and a perfect lip with no chips or other damage; it was collected by a diver at shallow depths. A very low initial price for a species which is difficult to obtain for collections. |
