Item | # 0003643162 |
Family | Muricidae |
Name | Thaisella chocolata - Nice, selected , (Duclos, 1832) |
Size | 80 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of the edible muricid Thaisella chocolata. This species is collected by divers in 4-20 m depth off the rocky coasts of northern Chile and southern PerĂº. This species is uncommon in collections as their shells are almost always covered with cirripedian and other epibionts. This particular specimen is very nice for the species, with very small defects but no chips in the lip. The dorsum has been cleaned but it still has barnacle remains (which can be cleaned with patience); it was collected by a diver at shallow depths. A very low initial price for a species which is difficult to obtain for collections. |
