Size | 31.3 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice live-collected (washed ashore) specimen of Trochita trochiformis. These snails live on rocks and on the shells of other snail species. They usually have very ugly shells, but the present specimen is very nice, having a nice dorsum with some erosion and preserving some of its periostracum. The specimen has a very nice septum (lip) with some tiny chips. The septum is often broken in this species as it is very fragile (I have seen many specimens online with very broken lips). The interior of the shell of this specimen is also very nice, of whitish and bluish color, and it is very shiny. A very low initial price for an interesting and hard to obtain specimen of Trochita trochiformis. |
