| Note | GEM. This is a dark orange-red memiae of the granulate form. This color is extremely rare, the combination of the red and the granulation make this a “once in a lifetime” shell. Usually C. memiae is quite dull colored, occasionally lemon yellow shells turn up. We have seen thousands of this species, which apparently has a very wide distribution: it’s even shown in the Conidae of South Africa by Tenorio & all (2008), but the bulk of shells in collections comes from the Philippines. The Tenorio specimen is pinkish red, close to the present one, it’s the only other red shell known, but it is not granulate.
