Family | Mytilidae |
Name | Perumytilus purpuratus - Amazing, excellent! , (Lamarck, 1819) |
Size | 25 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One excellent selected specimen of the common little mytilid Perumytilus purpuratus. This specimen was collected washed ashore fresh dead among coarse sand in a rocky beach at northern Chile. The specimen have perfect valves with a very nice sculpture, with periostracum intact. This species is almost never found in nice condition, as they live in the intertidal with high energy and they usually have shells very worn and eroded. This is an exceptional specimen of this rather common Mytilidae species. |
