Pionoconus cernohorskyi - SPECIAL COLOR , da Motta, 1983
Size
67.2 mm
Locality
Philippines
Note
GEM. A MAGUS - OR CERNOHORSKY - OR ASSIMILIS - WITH A DANCING SCENE. A strange Conus from the “magus” complex, which defies proper identification and which has a unique pattern of intriguing irregular black flecks. Either this is a magus or an assimilis, looks like a between-in-shell. But it could also be a cernohorskyi, as the pinkish top whorls suggest. However, very big for the cernorhorskyi indeed. What brings this particular magus-shell is the amazing fact of a row of dancing labels when the shell is viewed “horizontal” way. It is always agreable when we recognize ourselves in the patterns or shapes or even the behavior of animals. A coffee-table item.
Philippines. Bohol. Inabanga. Shallow. 2015.
