Note | F+++. NOT RECURVUS BUT EMARGINATUS AND WITH AN AMAZING PATTERN. This Conus, out of the extensive collection of Tom Rice, is an exceptional Conus emarginatus. This species lives in deep water - expert authors say between 20 and 150 meters - over a gigantic distance along the western American coasts. In the north it was collected near cold Magdalena Bay, and in the south it was collected in the cold waters of Ecuador. Also recorded from the Galapagos. What we have here is a thing of beauty with two patterns: the ventral side is completely saturated with browns, the dorsum with axial brown lines on a snow white background, set in the shape of irregular lightnings. This is a piece for the lovers of "beautiful and curious" shells. For Connoisseurs and Conologists the like. Quite fantastic.
Mexico. Baja California. Off Cabo San Lucas. January 1967. Ex. collection T. Rice.
