| Note | F+++. A HARD TO FIND SHELL TODAY: REAL SIAMENSIS FROM THE CANARIES. For a long time the Canary Island shells were considered a subspecies from the West African C. pulcher which grows much larger and which is more slender in shape. The siamensis has always a broad shoulder, and is quite triangular in shape, even in large pieces. The pattern is also more detailed and refined compared to most C. pulcher. The species has never been truly common in the Canaries. But was seen once in a little harbor just north of Los Christianos, in 6 m deep water, where the animals were buried in muddy sand. Only a small part of the dorsum was visible, but hard to detect as of the same color of the bottom. Today it is forbidden to dive in this harbor, unfortunately. Superb piece, minor growth line as canbe seen, not really harming, nice pattern and after 4 decades still with fresh colors, so this shell apparently never fades. A very difficult to find species at present.
Canary Islands. Tenerife. Divers 5-10 m. Ex. collection Klaas Klinken.
