Strategoconus striatellus - SPECIAL COLOR HYPOTYPE , Link, 1807
Size
58 mm
Locality
Philippines
Note
F++/+++. One of the better C. striatellus ever found, with shades in brown and axial ribs showing through the spiral bands, climbing up to the shoulder. Zigzags in the center. I know of only one piece shown in the literature with this feature: the RKK nr. 25. Well sized. Conus striatellus is a “fake” common shell: few have been shown in the literature. Classic books all together show less than 30 photographs of this species despite the fact that the range is huge: from Africa to the Philippines and New Caledonia. A fine piece. HYPOTYPE in the twin books: 1000 Shells, exceptionals from the Philippines.
Philippines. Bantayan Island. 10-25 m. 2013.
