| Note | GEM. This is a quite fantastic shell. It’s either a planorbis or a vitulinus, and this shell thinks he is a general regenfussi with two big solid orange bands and two white and black decorative belts. But one belt is lacking and too broad and short. The planorbis or vitulinus question is not to be solved tomorrow. RKK were choosing an elegant solution: planorbis forma vitulinus. The present form is rare, as a search in the literature shows. Dautzenberg (1939) shows a similar orange shell, but the black in the bands is brown, not black. From Amboina (as planorbis). There is one in RKK which approaches: their planorbis fig. 15 - but the belts are not so nice: no black in the central one, the upper one is diffuse. In Vitulinus, there is one figure which approaches this shell the most: in Reeve’s Iconica Vol. 1 from1843. All other shells with this pattern are dark brown, not orange. Little jewel, rare color form.
