F+++/GEM. A rare pattern in Conus magus: large dark brown flecks set in a square pattern. Only one other “species” of the magus group shows this: Conus worcesteri (Brazier, 1891). This shell is the closest possible to worcesteri, but the spire is a little too low to correspond perfectly to the holotype of worcesteri which is figured in RKK, and said to have come from Mauritius. Anyhow, a very interesting piece which can be called “form worcesteri”.
