Item | # 0003725093 |
Family | BIVALVIA |
Name | Entodesma cuneatum - Rare , (J. E. Gray, 1828) |
Size | 18.2 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One specimen of the rare nestling bivalve Entodesma cuneata. This interesting Lyonsiidae bivalve has a weakly nacreous interior of the shell and distorted valves, as it lives inside communities of the tunicate Pyura chilensis, from which it is difficult to obtain as the Pyura communities are made of hard cellulose. A low initial price for a rare and interesting endemic bivalve from the southeastern Pacific. |
