Family | Olividae |
Name | Felicioliva fulgurata f. subcastanea - Rare , (Lamarck, 1811) |
Size | 40 mm |
Locality | Puerto Viejo, Atacama, Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of Felicioliva fulgurata f. subcastanea. This species have several different color patterns, varying from deep brown color to almost white, and some with different morphologies (for example having a cone-like spire), but they live all in the same areas, and there are often specimens with very different shells living together. This particular specimen is a rare color variant, where the shell have a brownish color over a pattern of brownish streaks, the condition is excellent for the species (which is not shiny as its tropical congeners), but it has a little erosion in the ventral side. This specimen was collected alive buried in sand at a sandy protected beach in northern Chile (Puerto Viejo). An interesting and rare color variant for the species. |
