Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila gigas - INCREDIBLE REPRODUCTION , McCoy, 1867 |
Size | 175 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | An incredibly accurate reproduction of the most famous and sought after fossil cowrie – the LARGEST cowrie to ever exist – the extinct Zoila gigas, an endemic Australian species from the middle Miocene, of 15 million years ago. Accurate in every dimension, and remarkably convincing in apperarance, it is a work of art in itself. Only a couple of individuals in all the world are skilled in making these reproductions, and very few are ever offered on the world market. As a representative of this species within a collection, or as a natural history curiosity, this is a rare opportunity, without the 20,000 EUR price tag of a real specimen. |
