Name | Pleioptygma helenae - RARE LIVE-COLLECTED , Radwin & Bibbey, 1972 |
Size | 95.6 mm |
Locality | Nicaragua |
Note | An exceedingly rare LIVE-COLLECTED specimen of this, the only recent species of the otherwise extinct family Pleioptygmatidae. In this outstanding example one can readily discern the living colour and sculpture of the shell - beautiful, ultra-rich ochre-caramel, with white markings; and finely beaded spiral sculpture towards the anterior. Typical restricted loss to apex and siphonal canal, and slight roughening to natural apertural lip, but high quality for this elusive, very seldom offered species. Not freshly available for decades, and now obtainable only from the choicest old collections. An incredibly beautiful shell when seen like this. Data: Off Cayos Miskitos, Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, Nicaragua; upon sand/rubble substrate; 60-80 m; lobster trapped; 1990. Size: 95.6 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
