| Note | Collected in 1966, this magnificent old age GIANT is of no longer freshly available size. I have left it just as it was when collected, with the exterior encrusted with Siliquaria sp., and other coralline growth. The shell could be thoroughly cleaned if so desired, although the Haliotidae specialist may choose to leave the exterior uncleaned, for habitat / symbiotic information. Incredibly beautiful aperture, the colours of which defy description – a kaleidoscope of the green-blue element of the spectrum, with flashes of rich purple. A rare opportunity for an advanced Haliotidae specialist, or collector of giant-sized shells. Data: Off West Cape, Southland, South Island, New Zealand; upon rock reef substrate; 2-3 m; dived; 1966.
