| Note | In the previous sale I sold a rare, virtually perfect specimen of the nominate subspecies of V. grossi. In this sale I offer the same high quality in the rarer mcmichaeli form – with characteristic darker spiral bands. As the Volutidae specialist will know, it is exceedingly difficult to obtain a high quality example of either grossi form, as both are prone to growth and trawl damage. The current specimen, collected over SIXTY years ago by the legendary shell explorer Tom Nielsen, is of superb quality, with nothing but one restricted, difficult to discern disruption to the labral side of the body whorl. The original 1962 Nielsen label accompanies the specimen. A rare opportunity for an advanced Volutidae specialist to acquire a first-rate specimen of this rare deep-water subspecies, and a piece of Australian conchological history.
