Item | # 0003733154 |
Family | Volutidae |
Name | Amoria undulata sclateri - EXTREMELY RARE , Cox, 1869 |
Size | 83.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This outstanding specimen of a classic endemic southern Australian rarity was collected half a century ago. I am not aware of any fresh specimens having been found in recent decades. Uniform rich, glossy cream, as if fashioned from burnished ivory. Restricted loss at apertural lip. Almost never offered on the world market, with most of the known specimens being tightly held within Australia’s premiere collections. An extremely rare opportunity for an advanced Volutidae specialist to add this almost impossible to obtain form to their holdings. Data: Bass Strait, off King Island, New Year Group, Tasmania, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 60-80 m; trawled; 1975. Size: 83.4 mm. Grading: Fine. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
