Note | EXCLUSIVE MAGNIFICENT LONG SPINES!! Seldom seen so long spines form WOOOOW!! Something very crazy happened with this specimen. Sometimes irresponsible fishermen leave broken nets on the seabed and some of these nets remain for years entangled in the rocks. Here I show you a specimen that got entangled in the net and the shell grew with the net between its shell covering it and malformed in a way that it could continue to grow. I removed the net from this specimen now almost impossible to see but the aftermath of the way the second row of spine grows is unique, forming a wave-like spine. And probably it was for several months growing like that and very tangled this specimen grew elongating its spines all over its body. This may be the reason why the spines overhang the netting making them longer for protection from predators even with the netting around them. Marvelous extended and ling spines with superb conditions, the apex, lip and siphon are really perfect. Spectacular beauty! The Muricanthus population in Barra de Navidad, Jalisco is unique, as the specimens are inside a lagoon with mangroves nearby and protected from currents and waves, most of them covered with algae and mud keeping their apex, spines and body generally intact, something completely different from the populations in the open sea, with much damage to their shells. Even so, these specimens here are incredibly rare with so much conditions for the species and with incredible shapes. Without a doubt this masterpiece is a treasure for anyone who wins it. It is much more impressive in your hands because of the details that you can't see in the photos. Super high selection in situ with the best exceptional conditions you can get for this extraordinary and seldom seen species. For any MURICIDAE lovers of aesthetics and advancer collectors. Found attached and buried between muddy stones with oysters about 6m- 7m deep. Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico. May 2025. Value for this extreme long spines and prisoner of nets: 120-140 euros.
