Note | One very nice and WRS specimen of the extremelly rare and endemic deep water buccinid Aeneator martae Araya, 2013. This species is known only by the type specimens and from just a few additional specimens from a single location (Caldera) in northern Chile. This species is the most recently described Chilean Aeneator, a genus from deep waters from New Zealand and Chile, and it has not been cited since its original description. This particular specimen was collected in the 80's by prawn fisheries, no longer working in the area and it was preserved by a fisherman, who drilled a hole in the columellar chanel as can be seen in the images. This is the largest recorded specimen and it will be depicted in an upcoming article about some deep water species. This is your opportunity to obtain one of the rarest deep water large gastropods from northern Chile. |
