Item | # 0003767278 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila marginata ketyana bataviensis - ULTRA-CALLOSITY; BIG , Lorenz & Morrison, 2001 |
Size | 53.6 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | An impressive ultra-large specimen, exhibiting ultra-developed marginal and ventral callosity. The thickness of deposition of shell material, and consequent weight to size ratio, can only be properly appreciated in the hand. In addition to its callosity, the specimen exhibits a finely DIMPLED ventrum – a sign of hypermaturity, absent in the majority of examples. Elegant, symmterical proportions. Subtle pink hue to dorsum. Fine typical lines to dorsum – completely negligible. A very special bataviensis. Data: Off Kalbarri, Mid-West Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge, (Geodia sp.); 36 m; dived; 2004. Size: 53.6 mm. Grading: Fine++++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
