Item | # 0003767357 |
Family | Volutidae |
Name | Amoria sp. aff. diamantina - EXTREMELY RARE |
Size | 51.9 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | The ONLY specimen of the JES Collection, (and the ONLY specimen I have ever encountered), of what is patently an exceedingly rare species – a member of the Amoria diamantina / Amoria chaneyi complex – exhibiting either a close relation to Amoria diamantina, or being a variant thereof. In typical diamantina, the ultra-fine axial stripes of the current specimen are absent, and the slightly wider axial dashes, (set in two spiral bands), are broader - yet the dot-like dark markings at the suture remain a constant feature of typical examples, and the form offered here. Beautiful subtle colour. High gloss. Natural apertural lip. Definitely for the advanced Volutidae specialist to research and determine. Data: Off Geraldton, Mid-West Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-100 m; trawled; 1989. Size: 51.9 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
