| Note | One of the greatest, and most sought after rarities of all Australian seashells, and of the world’s Muricidae, in exceptional condition for the species – PERFECTION. Virtually all known specimens suffer some degree of damage to the two elongate siphonal tubes during life, or the trawling process, by which they are either greatly truncated, or lost altogether. Only in one of the FEW KNOWN specimens like that offered here can one observe the balance, and supreme elegance of form which exists when BOTH siphonal tubes are incredibly elongate, and equally well-preserved. Oversized, glassy, mammillate protoconch intact. Retention of original diminutive operculum. In this phenomenal specimen we also observe the true LIVING colour: rosy pink to the elongate canals, and whorls decorated with abstract designs in rich caramel. Still with a little natural coralline encrustation, (which could be removed if desired), but which is important to the advanced Muricidae researcher in terms of habitat information. An extreme deep-water species, no fresh specimens have been available for decades, and are never likely to be obtained again. One of the greatest treasures of the JES Collection, now to be passed to an advanced Muricidae specialist, or dedicated admirer of the world’s rarest and most exquisite seashells.
