| Note | A superb large specimen, from the ‘old days’ of Hawai’ian availability, exhibiting beautiful, now fully stable colour, and a perfect ‘chequer’ pattern in ultra-dark chestnut. Very large and prominent chequer squares. Resplendent heavy gloss. One fine axial line to columellar side of dorsum the only reason for a less than ‘Gem’ grading – see above left image. Extremely difficult to obtain now, coming only from old collections. Data: Off Nankuli, Oahu, Hawai’ian Islands; upon coral reef substrate, at night; 22 m; dived; 1978. Size: 27.6 mm.
