Item | # 0003771784 |
Family | Columbellidae |
Name | Salitra bourguignati - Very Rare , (Locard, 1891) |
Size | 6.1 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One nice specimen of the very rare and endemic Columbellidae species Salitra bourguignati (previously known as Salitra radwini). This particular specimen was collected from shell grit dredged among rocks in northern Chil. This species was previously thought to have an European distribution, but it has recently found to be conspecific with a species described originally from Iquique, northern Chile, and it has instead a real small geographical distribution in northern Chile, from Iquique to Coquimbo, and it is very difficult to obtain as it is naturally rare but has a very nice shell with a very unusual protoconch. |
