Item | # 0003806524 |
Family | Conidae |
Name | Conus anemone peronianus - RARE QUALITY; THE BEST , Iredale, 1931 |
Size | 75.6 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A truly incredible specimen of the rare PINK colour form – one of the FINEST specimens of the JES Collection, and one of the best I have ever encountered. This fine-shelled subspecies is typically beset with innumerable growth lines and disruptions. The current specimen is an exceedingly rare exception. As close to perfection as is possible. Beautiful pastel colours of pink and apricot. Markedly inflated pyriform. Rare locality. Retention of original operculum. Now only from old collections, and almost never like this. Definitely for the Conidae specialist requiring a ‘top of the line’ example to compliment an advanced collection. Data: Off Langton Island, Sir Joseph Banks Group, Spencer Gulf, South Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, amongst algae/rubble, under slab; 28 m; dived; 1984. Size: 75.6 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
