| Note | This EXCEPTIONAL GIANT – approaching the size limit for the species – is of the ‘oceanic’ form: the incredibly solid and heavy giant form which used to be found in the early days of deep-diving at this locality. For one who has not experienced the giant ‘oceanic’ form before, such shells come as a revelation after encountering typical examples. Extremely rich colour: dark chestnut and tan, with honey-gold accents. Superb dorsal pattern. Spectacular ultra-high ivory margins, surmounted by a distinct pale blue register. Hypermature: exceedingly thickened shell walls, with remarkable weight, only fully appreciated in the hand. Marked dorsal acclivity, creating a distinctly triangular outline in lateral profile. Nothing but the typical micro irregularities always associated with this giant ‘oceanic’ form, upon account of the extremely rough habitat – strong swell; predation – negligible when measured against such a monumental and outstanding specimen. Although numerous eludens have been found over the past three decades, very few are like the current example. The form of eludens sought by the connoisseur.
