Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Cypraea histrio westralis - OUTSTANDING; BIG , Iredale, 1935 |
Size | 66.5 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | An outstanding very large specimen of this distinctive Western Australian form, exhibiting the finest possible expression of its characteristic netted dorsal pattern – delicate tracery in rich caramel across a bluish grey ground. Markedly inflated pyriform, with steep dorsal acclivity, creating a particularly attractive overall form. Spectacular margins with large chocolate maculae. The specimen also comes from a rare locality – remote, and far removed from typical localities for this form, probably accounting for its singular nature. Definitely for the Cypraeidae connoisseur. Data: Off eastern coast of Weld Island, Western Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, under slab; 6 m; dived; 1998. Size: 66.5 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
