Item | # 0003806870 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cypraea tigris pardalis - EXCEPTIONAL QLD. SP. , Shaw, G., 1794 |
Size | 68.8 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A superb specimen of the Queensland form. Rare quality. Exquisite colours. Beautiful dorsal pattern. Spectacular margins, with ultra-large, virtually circular dark chocolate maculae. Rare locality. Impeccably curated for decades, appearing as fresh as if collected this year, with thick resplendent gloss – a rare phenomenon, as many old specimens show their age via a dulling of sheen. Always rare on the Great Barrier Reef, fresh specimens have not been available for decades, and are now obtainable only from old collections. Data: Off Myora, North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia; upon reef substrate, in coral crevice; 1-2 m; dived; 1979. Size: 68.8 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
