| Note | Hyper-pigmented, mature and exceptionally thick, hyper-glazed specimen from the black Stansbury population. The specimen is highlighted by an chocolate brown blotched color veil and a spectacular "once in a lifetime" curving dorsal line. The atrata features symmetrical form and balance. Moderate weight/size ratio with a beautiful base pattern, including spotting on the columellar base and margin, contribute to the allure of this shell. The specimen displays perfect siphons, base and hyper-black lateral walls. Diver taken using Scuba at 8-10 meters off Stansbury, Gulf of St. Vincent, South Australia in the 80s. As with most of these specimens, it was harvested from or near a red sponge on sand/rubble substrate amongst flagweed. One subnacre blemish on the anterior ramp is evident. Ex: Don Pisor collection. Grade: GEM minus. |
