| Note | The advanced Conidae collector will be aware of the difficulty of obtaining a GIANT specimen of exceptional quality. Usually, a sacrifice must be made. Should one seek QUALITY, one opts for a smaller/younger specimen, whereas, if SIZE is desired, the sacrifice is upon the side of quality. Only exceedingly rarely does Nature present us with BOTH features within a single specimen – such as the current example. Rich colour. Well-formed pattern throughout. Retention of the exceedingly delicate, pin-point, pink protoconch – extremely important for the conoisseur, and essential for a ‘Gem’ specimen, yet lost upon virtually all specimens of such size. A specimen which truly lives up to its soubriquet. A ‘museum piece’ of conchology, and a classic ‘collector’s item’, still as rare and coveted today as ever at this size and quality.
