The Muricanthus population in Barra de Navidad, Jalisco is unique, as the specimens are inside a lagoon with mangroves nearby and protected from currents, waves and directly sun light, most of them covered with algae and mud keeping their apex, spines and body generally intact, something completely different from the populations in the open sea, with much damage to their shells, fully ugly and complete covered by very thick hard to remove calcareous attachments. Even so, these specimens here are incredibly rare with so much better conditions for the species, with incredible shapes and spines.
