Item | # 0003839815 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria macandrewi - RARE PASCO IS. FORM , Sowerby III, G.B., 1887 |
Size | 38.9 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | Off the northern coast of Western Australia lie four islands, forming a group – Barrow, Middle, Boodie, and Pasco. The latter is tiny in comparison with the others – a mere granite outcrop. Numerous specimens of A. macandrewi come from Barrow Island, whilst virtually no collector has ever visited Pasco Island, and the current specimen is the ONLY example from this locality of which I am aware as having ever been offered upon the world market. Rare quality – PERFECTION. Beautiful colour: rich yellowish cream ground, with reddish chestnut axial streaks. Well-formed pattern. The remote locality is now protected as part of the Barrow Island Marine Management Area, and no fresh specimens will be available in future. Definitely for the advanced Volutidae specialist interested in rare locality variants. Data: Off eastern coast of Pasco Island, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate, upon intertidal sand flat at extreme low tide; 1999. Size: 38.9 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
