Item | # 0003839818 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila marginata ketyana bataviensis - BIG; EXCEPTIONAL PATTERN , Lorenz & Morrison, 2001 |
Size | 57.2 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This huge, heavy specimen exhibits a spectacular dorsal pattern constituted of a sprinkling of fine, perfectly circular caramel maculae, evenly distributed across the entire dorsum in a design of the highest aesthetic merit. The ventrum rivals the dorsum in splendour, exhibiting saturated rich earth colours. Minimal typical lines to dorsum, present in virtually all bataviensis, and negligible when weighed against the rare and extraordinarily beautiful nature of the shell. Hypermature, with dense marginal and ventral callosity; deep divets upon the ventrum, corresponding with maculae; and pronounced, profuse dorsal ridging. A rare bataviensis for the Zoila specialist. Data: Off Kalbarri, Gascoyne region, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge; 45 m; dived; 2003. Size: 57.2 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
