| Note | This magnificent specimen, collected over forty years ago, during the ‘old days’ of deep-water South American dredging, is of exceptional quality for this extremely delicate species, given its fragility, habitat, and collection method. It also exhibits superb and beautiful colour, with the rich caramel element occupying the full length of the radial ribs upon the darker valve exterior. The locality is now protected as the Parque Natural del Islote de Lobos, and no fresh specimens will be available in future. A standout specimen for the Pectinidae specialist. Data: Off El Puertito, Isla de Lobos, Maldonado, Uruguay; upon sand/mud substrate; 120 m; dredged; 1982. Size: 71.1 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
