This species is common in my region but maybe 99% of the specimens in the open sea shows strong erosion, drill holes and several scars in my own personal opinion and experience after diving for them for more than 15 years. Some rare populations hidden in bays or lagoons present good conditions but are rarely seen. Here is the best selection of this species with incredible spines, shapes and coloration. Found attached between big stones about 5m to 8m deep. Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico. July 2025. Value for this with crazy curved and extra long shoulder spines : 50-60 euro.
