| Note | Impressive form, thick nacred and wonderfully speckle/maculae patterned collector's pride specimen of this rare friendii form. Remarkable deep water shell with characteristic convex base, depressed inflated oval body, and rounded margins. The kostini demonstrates cantaloupe orange extremities, soft ivory/nude dorsal primary pigmentation and a porcelain white base. Notable weight to size ratio (32.8 grs) complements this superb and significantly rare cowrie. Collected by ROV at 160 meters on flat sandy, shale/rubble substrate with sparse small sponges, fine weeds between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste, off Margaret River, Western Australia in 2/2012. The specimen is flawless. Grade: GEM. |
