Note | Huge, close to world record sized specimen with the superb natural periostracum remaining and a pair of hitchhiking barnacles. The classic natural giant. The heavy east Pacific conch shows a depressed spire and a thick pronounced outer lip (585.1 grams). The specimen shows excellent morphology and symmetry. The shoulder is nodulated, with an amazing aperture color, highlighted by a pink, lavender and apricot orange aperture. A really amazing display of bright pink/tangerine orange pigmentation. Who knows how pretty the body whorl might be if the periostracum is removed? The specimen shows an excellent array of profound ribs on the heavily flared lip. Perfect spire, aperture and body whorl. The perfectly glossed aperture is complemented by an outstanding thick lip. The Peruvian Conch was collected by scuba diver off Isla del Muerto, Ecuador-Peru border at 10-20 meters in 4/2009. EX: Andres R. Bonard collection. An amazingly preserved specimen for its size. The shell exhibits slight erosion of the protoconch and some wear on the anal notch, typical for large specimens. Grade: F+++. |
