Note | Impressively globular, superbly inflated specimen with a strong array of anterior marginal tubercles and marginal flaring. Beautifully dispersed collage of dorsal spot patterning with flawless extremities, base and exemplary dorsal nacre gloss. The shell shows moderate rostration of the posterior extremity with exceptional form and symmetry. This subspecies is primarily located in a limited area of southern Australia and there are no known recently captured specimens in over a decade. Taken by compressor diver while feeding on Trachycladus laevispirulifer sponge nested on boulders/ridges between other sponges and algae at 15-20 meters off Penneshaw, Backstairs Passage, Kangaroo Island, South Australia in 10/2007. The specimen demonstrates shallow subtle growth lines on both ramps. EX: Peter Clarkson collection. Grade: GEM minus. |
