Trona stercoraria OVER A HUNDRED
100.2 mm Dakar, Senegal, West Africa 810,00 € |

Item | # 0003860980 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Trona stercoraria - OVER A HUNDRED , Linnaeus 1758 |
Size | 100.2 mm |
Locality | Dakar, Senegal, West Africa |
Note | Gently spotted lateral walls, high gloss with typical and rich dark mottled dorsal pattern. Combined with the thick calloused margins, make this larger shell a real collectable Trona. Also, it's a giant specimen, size matters and yes, they're worth more, because there are not too many around. Rare to find this species over the one hundred mark. Hyper-glossy shell, with a heavy weight/size ratio (107.4 grams), amazing thick glazed margins and a unique dorsal "cloudy" collage from algae as many of the specimens from this area demonstrate. This West African giant has a perfect base and aperture. Taken by free diver in shallow water (2-4 meters) off Pointe des Almadies, Dakar, Senegal, West Africa in 2023. The Trona displays very shallow and palpable nacre scrapes on the extremity tips, and a mini-subnacre white spot on the mid-dorsum as seen in images. Grade: F++/F+++. |
