Note

One very nice live-taken specimen of Fissurella maxima, the largest species of Fissurellidae. This species lives on rocks, usually near and under forests of giant Lessonia algae. Large Fissurella species in Chile are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and almost always damaged. The dorsum of the shell is always covered by calcareous algae, vermetids, boring polychaetes and other epibionts, particularly Scurria species. It is currently difficult to obtain large specimens like this one. This one was is in very good condition for the species and the size, with no chips in the border of the shell and a very nice natural dorsum (lightly cleaned) with some calcareous algae but with no Scurria scars. A low initial price for a very nice and very large specimen of Fissurella.
