M.ambiguus and M. radix are known to cohabitate in colonies which makes them vulnerable to mating with each other in very extreme and rare cases. This results in some hybrids with combined characteristics of two species. Muricanthus ambiguus is characterized by a pyriform-shaped shell, has a higher spire, a longer siphonal canal and sharper, with fewer varices. compare with the Muricanthus radix is characterized by a globose, round, and heavy shell, short spire, short siphonal canal and several varices between 8 to 14. Here you can admire this Hybrid with short spire and several varices (8 varices), globose body shape, extra long multiple sharp spines, long siphonal canal and heavy, a real mixed characteristic of both species.
