LocalityCaldera, northern Chile
NoteOne very nice specimen of the very rare Fissurella bridgesi, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, and it is found in very low numbers. This is, together with F. pulchra, the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and PerĂº. Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen has a nice thick shell, with a very nice naturally clean dorsum with some erosio near the foramen and a single barnacle (as can be seen in the images), but with no scurria scars or other damages. It has a very nice beveled border with no damages except a single chip. As large Fissurella are commercially exploited in the area they are nowadays more uncommon, and this particular species is very rare. This is an opportunity to obtain a rare and nice specimen from a difficult-to-get species for a very low initial price.
