Note | One very nice specimen of the very rare Fissurella bridgesi, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, and it is found in very low numbers. This is, together with F. pulchra, the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and PerĂº. Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen has a nice thick and curiosly flat shell, with a very nice naturally clean dorsum with microscopic boreholes and partially covered with calcareous algae, but with no scurria scars or other damages. It has an almost perfect beveled border with no damages except some minuscule chips almost unnoticeable. The interior of the shell is shiny white and with no traces or boring organisms as usual. As large Fissurella are commercially exploited in the area they are nowadays more uncommon, and this particular species is very rare. This is an opportunity to obtain a rare and nice specimen from a difficult-to-get species for a low initial price. |
