Item# 0003870195
FamilyFissurellidae
NameFissurella pulchra - Very Rare,Hard to Obtain , G. B. Sowerby I, 1834
Size87.2 mm
LocalityCaldera, northern Chile
NoteOne very nice live-collected specimen of the very rare Fissurella pulchra, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, on rocks in sandy areas and in very low numbers. Together with F. bridgesi these are the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and PerĂº (although pulchra is rarer). Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen is very nice for the species, has a nice dorsum in its natural condition, with some erosion and some tiny boreholes and some remains of calcareous algae. The interior of the shell is very nice and shiny. The lip is perfect, thickened, with no damages. A very low initial price for an interesting and very rare limpet, very difficult to obtain at such size. Reduced Price!
